Cealis Lavetra

Yes, everyone! Dr. Cealis lavetra: kim is in fact talking to a “clone.” But it isn’t really human either. It’s a synthetic human. You’ll learn more about these later.

This scene is very important for Dr; cealis lavetra.Kim’s character; cealis lavetra. In the original team for The Pure and Hidden Truth her character’s name was “Cici” and she was the field scientist who took readings of all kinds of weird stuff for Art and the gang. When I consolidated the team with more of an Art/Jillian/Dakota spin I had to figure out how I can keep this scientist character in the story and have her be linked to the original team.

Did you know that when I first showed people these pages a couple months ago they didn’t know that these two were played by the same person!? That was the weirdest conversation I’ve ever had about my comic when one of younger friends had asked me which of the two girls would I rather go on a date with. It was hard for me to wrap my head around his ramblings until I finally put 2 and 2 together and was like “DUDE! They are the same person!” Man, he felt so dumb afterward! It was so hilarious.

I made the decision to change the color of the synthetic human’s text bubble to kind of distinguish it from being completely human - cealis lavetra. I would imagine that they have an eerily dry and almost mechanical voice - cealis lavetra. Another reason was because I got really confused reading some of their dialogue together in future pages (knowing in my head that they were the same person, haha!).

Surely a lower threshold of pain means that the the clone is more easily “broken” as it can’t tolerate as much?

@ Francisco: You’re completely right. In this context it’s hard to wrap around the fundamentals behind her making the statement in the first place. Another TV Script to Comic Script translation casualty.

In an effort to make synthetic humans more “human” Dr. Kim designed them to be able to perceive pain. A low threshold for them doesn’t correlate to us as humans. They are not people and technically they aren’t true “clones” either. The techno-babble that was originally supposed to be on this page was great for explaining this but looked horrible when laid out on the page. I just write too much I think! Haha!

But stay tuned as you will learn more about Synthetics and why she created them in contrast to what they are being used for. This will all make a lot more sense to you by the time this scene is over. Hang in there, bro!
